I wanted something a little different and after being passed many times on my commute by the sharp looking Mini I decided to check on them. I needed better Gas Mileage and I have doubled it+ with Mini's Base model. I have only great things to say so far, exceptionally fun car to drive. My wife and daughter take it every time they can! I would buy them both one if I could. The dealership in Santa Clara made the whole deal easy for me, no high pressure to buy Today like I thought when I made the call to go see the dealer. 3.5"I had the engine warning light come on which indicates a potentially serious problem but Mini could not look at my car when I brought it in because they were swamped with recall work. But if I continued to drive my car and then something serious actually happened I was concenred that I would have been told that I should not have been driving it and I had voided the warranty. So I had no choice but to wait for Mini to find the time to look at it. After many phone calls I managed to pressure the service department into looking at the car. Then they discovered that the coolant system thermostat was failing, which is a serious issue. Glad I persisted in pestering them to look at the car ASAP. Then they told me my front tires were worn and had to be replaced. If they had rotated them at the 15K service they would have lasted longer. They wanted to sell me new tires for almost double what I would pay for them at a regular tire shop. I declined. Not only did they perform the service, but they replaced the door sill logo which was peeling off at no charge and also informed me of other warranty items that I was not aware of which they will be performing on my next visit when the parts are ready for installation. 1.5"I was very disappointed. First, bad advice: Mr. Talingdan, my advisor, told me my car was out of warranty because it was 400 miles over the 36k-mile cutoff. In fact, it has been out of warranty for a couple of years due to the 36 mo. cutoff. Second, failure to inform: I brought the car in for recall work (water pump). Mr. Talingdan looked at my file and told me I was due for new brakes, so I authorized that work. When the car was in the shop and your technician inspected it, he discovered that about $5k of work that's needed. My advisor didn't tell me about that, and the brake work was done - it was not cheap. I will now sell my car - it's not worth investing $5k in repairing a car of this age/value. Had my advisor advised me of all that needed to be done, I would have viewed the brake work the same as the rest of the needed repairs and told you not to do it. I had asked Mr. Talingdan when to expect my car, and he said he'd let me know after the order of service was established. Having heard nothing, I finally called him about 2:30 and was told the work on my car was just being finished. Had I received a more timely call, we would have had a timely discussion about what the technician found, and I'd have dollars to spend on my new car instead of new brakes that I won't be needing." 3.5"The recall was done in a fair amount of time but the loud, squeaky window problem which was confirmed by Peter Smee when I dropped off the car, was not resolved. I had to ask someone to come out, hear it, and even though it needed lubricant, I felt it was ignored. Peter Smee also was supposed to tell me how long it would take as I was waiting for the car and he never followed up with me. I had to wait 2 hours until I saw that my car came out & sat there for 15 minutes and no one advised me that it was ready. Peter Smee was too busy with other customers and kept ignoring the fact that I was in front of him waiting for him to tell me that my car was ready. I finally had to ask the person that drove out my car, he confirmed it was but was told that I had to wait for Peter. I was frustrated that now it was 1/2 hour since my car was done and no Peter. Thankfully, another service person saw how long I had been waiting & took over. When he printed the report, I was told that the window problem had not been heard/confirmed by the service guys so if I would hear it again, to bring it back. When I went out to the car, the squeaky noise was indeed evident and I wanted it checked out because I had just replaced the motor a month ago. I was finally able to talk to Peter and his answer was that I needed to get a service person myself because he was helping another customer. Unacceptable! The other service person helped me once again, even rolled his eyes when he heard that Peter did not step in to help, and got a service guy to come out. He heard the noise right away & all it needed was lubricant but it should have been done when the car was in. Sounds to me like they didn't even check it since the noise was pretty loud & evident it was impossible that it wasn't confirmed. I've brought my car in many times and this was the worse service I have ever rec'd in any dealership. Peter never even apologized, knowing how irritated I was with him, even after I told him that I couldn't believe that I had to do all the work in finding a service person to come out & recheck my car." The work (that included front brake replacement and some recall repair) was finished well ahead of the time promised.
