What Is the MINI Electric?
For the first time ever, MINI will be mass-producing a fully electric vehicle for the North American market. Built around the iconic MINI Hardtop 2-Door platform, and with over a decade of research and development, the all-new MINI Electric is set to be one of the most exciting new cars for 2020.
Electric vehicles have quickly risen in popularity amongst consumers, and it's easy to see why. From the convenience side of things, electric vehicles can be charged from hone, and offer a comfortable, quiet driving experience. Their performance is quite impressive, too. With powerful electric motors the torque delivery is instant, offering thrilling acceleration unlike anything else on the road. Lastly, the environmental benefits of electric cars can have a serious positive impact, especially when charged using renewable energy sources. The new MINI Electric will bring all of these great benefits to the iconic MINI Hardtop 2-Door, and may set the stage for future models, too.
Fully Electric. Same Iconic Design.
One of the most important parts in developing the all-new MINI Electric was maintaining that legendary MINI look, performance, and feel. Many other manufacturers have pushed beyond the boundaries of automotive design, creating striking vehicles no doubt, but ones that have little similarity to their accompanying models. MINI, however, has kept the design of the MINI Electric much closer to its gasoline-powered counterparts.Designed and developed around the MINI Cooper Hardtop 2-Door platform, this new MINI Electric model has replaced the traditional gasoline engine, and has replaced it with a powerful 135kW electric motor. When paired with the 33kWh battery, this new MINI can produce 184 horsepower and travel up to 120 miles on a single charge. Best of all, with a 50kWh rapid charging system, the battery can be charged up to 80% in just over a half hour!
Subtle Refinements. Big Changes.
MINI cars and SAVs have been well-know for their compact footprint and spacious interior. To maintain these iconic characteristics, designers worked hard to design an electric vehicle that was quintessentially MINI, both inside and out. On the outside of the new MINI Electric you will find subtle yellow accents, a newly-designed grille, and unique four-spoke alloy wheels. Inside you will also find additional refinements, most notably a new 5.5-inch fully digital driver display and a newly-designed navigation system based around vehicle charge and charging stations. These tiny changes maintain the look and feel that MINI cars are known for, all while indicating that the MINI Electric is something very special.
